We were hoping for some spring in Barcelona. Unfortunately, we had a lot of rain and low temperatures (though it was a lot warmer then in Denmark - and no snow!!). Only the last couple of days, the temperature was increasing and the sun came through, so we took a walk along the beautyful beach of Barcelona and got some spring-feelings. This week we were preparing for our short-trip to Barcelona. My personal preparation was reading the fantastic book "La Catedral del Mar" by Idelfonso Falcones de Sierra in the weeks up to our holidays. It's the story of Arnau Estagnol, who was deeply involved in the building of the Santa Maria del Mar-church in the 14th century. The photo shows a part of this giant cathedral. Week 4 - Full moon over the Sound

Last week I read a note in the newspaper, that the moon will be full on Saturday. It was also written that it will be extra-ordinary big, because right now the moon is quite close to the Earth.

So I went down to the beach and took a couple of photos of the rising moon, mirroring in the Øresund - the Sound between Denmark and Sweden. The illuminated ship is the ferryboat from Copenhagen to Oslo (Norway). Bellevue beach, north of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Week 51 - Surreal Winter Night

Suddenly, we had hours of snow storm and everything was covered in a thick layer of this white stuff. It's quite extraordinary that we have so much snow in Denmark. The turkey is stuffed, buttered and ready to go into the oven for the next 4 hours. It was my son's birthday and his greatest wish was to get a real "thanksgiving-dinner" with turkey, pumpkin pie, cornbread, sweet potatos, cranberry sauce and last but not least: banana cream pie... Week 47 - After the storm

This week we had the first real autumn storm with blasts up to 35 m/s (Beaufort scale 12/hurricane) wich brought down a tree into the high-voltage lines. This caused power failure in our area for about 24 hours. The storm left us with leaveless trees like these birches in front of todays beautyful sunset.

Week 43 - Ladies' room

Wednesday I went to the hospital in Herlev, where they scanned my knee. Suspicion of meniscus injury... Anyway, the hospital is quite a funny place to be. There are these circles all over the place - in different sizes, patterns and colours. It's the danish artist Poul Gernes, who has decorated the hospital. PS: This is the last picture wich I tag with "summer". Next week, on tuesday the 22nd, at 21:18 (UTC) it's the September equinox, the time where the sun is vertically above a point on the Equator. The 22nd is the day where night and day are equal in length and that marks the beginning of autumn, at least here in Denmark and the rest of the northern Hemisphere. You guys down there in Australia, NZ and all the other nice places south of the Equator can celebrate the beginning of spring - lucky bastards!

Week 37 - Turning Torso

This weekend Ida and I were in Malmö, Sweden. Mostly for shopping, but we also visited the new housing estates in the former docklands of Malmö. On the picture you see the "Turning Torso", a high-rise block wich is twisted 90 degrees! So that the front right corner at the bottom of the building becomes the the front left corner at the top. Quite amazing... Docklands, Malmö, Sweden.

Week 30 - Relic of the Socialist Age

After two great weeks in Croatia, we headed back for Denmark. Not without having stopovers in Vienna, Dresden and Hamburg. This picture is taken in Dresden and shows one of the very few relics of 5 decades of Socialism in the former German Democratic Republic. It's a mosaic on the facade of the "Kulturpalast", the center for cultural and political education (indoctrination?) of the people, which you could find in any eastern european and soviet city. Now, this is the only "socialist" building left in town, and the mosaic has to be protectet by a mesh against vandalism by the paople... Kulturpalast, Dresden, Germany.

Week 29 - Easy living in Croatia

Our second week in Croatia. We had moved southwards to a place near the ancient town of Trogir, one of the croatian cities on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The weather was great but it was hot! This didn't seem to bother the locals who where smart enough to stay inside their blinded houses during the day. Or enjoying themselves and each other - like this couple, taking a ride on his scooter. I chose this picture (among millions!) because it shows the very relaxed and easy, mediterranean life-style, you'll meet in Croatia. Trogir, Croatia.

Week 28 - Croatia, here we come!

Summer holidays! This year, we were heading for Croatia. The first week we stayed near Zadar, one of the bigger towns along the Dalmatian coast. One of the attractions here is the "Monument to the Sun", an urban installation which, by means of photovoltaic cells built-in sea walkway, changes solar energy into lighting spectacle during the night. Right next to the monument you'll find the Zadar "Sea Organ", wich plays random, but melodic music, generated by the waves, pushing water into holes in the sea walkway. Zadar, Croatia.

Ticket machines at the entrance of Nørreport station in the center of Copenhagen. Nørreport station is the busiest station in Denmark - most people are getting on and off the trains right here. Of course that's not true at this time of the day and in July, where a lot of people are on holidays. Mine start tomorrow and this year we are going to visit Croatia. People rushing through the hall of Copenhagen central station. Some going southwards, som northwards. When you're looking at the crowd of people, it seems like it's one big chaotic anthill. But when you're focusing on the individual persons, you'll notice that they all know their paths and are heading straight to their goals. Week 12 - Where ancient architecture meets modern art

The new windows in the Protestant Church of Gentofte, north of Copenhagen. The incredible light effects are created by the very modernistic glass mosaics/paintings by Per Kirkeby, one of the most famous living danish artists.
